About Us

DELIVERING MORE THAN A MEAL

Founded in 1987, Meals on Wheels of Suffolk & Isle of Wight, Inc. is a 501 C-3 non-profit organization located on the Garden Level of Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. Meals on Wheels delivers nutritious meals to homebound residents in the Suffolk, Windsor and Isle of Wight region who find it difficult or impossible to prepare meals for themselves. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday, rain or shine. We currently have an active volunteer force of over 200 groups, individuals, and corporate businesses.

As an independent, local organization, Meals on Wheels of Suffolk & Isle of Wight, Inc. receives no state nor federal funding but instead relies on private payments, grants, donations, and fundraising events to support our home delivered meals program. Meals on Wheels of Suffolk & Isle of Wight is a charter member of Meals on Wheels America and a proud partner organization to Hampton Roads’ & Western Tidewater’s local area agency on aging, Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia.

Meals on Wheels provides a source of daily social contact for people who would otherwise be alone. With the help of our meal service, seniors and individuals with disabilities are given the opportunity to age in place with respect and dignity. Because volunteers check on meal recipients often, older adults who live alone can be comforted knowing that we are always there to ensure their safety. Our dedicated and compassionate volunteers serve as the eyes and ears of our organization and alert office staff to any inconsistencies in a home environment, behavior or personality changes, and any other pertinent information.
